Muggu in the US

Happy Pongal! I am very lucky to have the year 2018 start off so colorful and in the company of two great and talented women. Pongal is a South Asian celebration of the years harvest and happens every year in January. Food and sweets are prepared; a morning bath is drawn, new pair of clothing is worn; and a bon fire is burnt early sunrise to start the day.

My Attayyas decided to decorated my driveway with muggu. Traditional muggu is done by sprinkling white flower/ powder onto a wet floor, usually in front of a home. Designs are intricately planed out days prior to the festival. This year my Attayya's connected their patterns using store bought chalk. The designs were as beautiful as the ones done in India. 2018 is going to be a colorful new year.
